Young Artist Programme - YAP
Term 1 - September 2020,
In YAP Term 1, children will confront ideas about “Reflection”. Through introspection and artistic awareness, they will experiment with various mediums and practice essential artistic skills to produce new artwork every week.
Heavily project-based, this six-week programme will encourage students to express themselves through art, while reflecting inwardly as well as outwardly about civic and social issues.

Modigliani Self portrait
Pastel on Canvas
In the first week students will dive right in and explore self portraiture in the style of Modigliani. Observing themselves in a mirror and being able to transcribe more than their physical appearance through art.
Week 2 & 3
Using multimedia, 3 dimensional techniques and recycle reflective objects, students will consider creating a sculpture installation of endangered species inviting the public to reflect on the fragility of their ecosystem and how we are part of it.
Considering locations as part of their environmental building blocks of themselves, students will learn to paint reflections in watercolours, as well as express the cultural reverberations that can be felt in a city.
Using multimedia and collage, students will create a composition representing all of the elements and circumstances that made them who they are.
Into my shoes
Multimedia & paint
Using a reflective surface students will paint a cartoon representation of themselves, thinking about and inviting the viewer to put themselves into their shoes.
