Introducing a 6-week workshop for students to dig deep and understand how to be inspired by other artists, the world around them, and imagination to develop their own artworks. During this period, students will develop brainstorming and ideation skills and learn new techniques in drawing, mixed media, and acrylic painting.

This Season at Art of Making Art: Where Surrealism Meets Pop!

Explore a world where imagination knows no bounds! This season, Art of Making Art invites young creatives to explore the dreamlike landscapes of surrealism and fuse them with the bold, playful spirit of pop art. It's a dynamic journey that encourages participants to think beyond the ordinary, break creative barriers, and bring their most fantastical ideas to life on canvas.

Designed especially for pre-teens and teens (ages 11–18), this workshop offers a unique opportunity to sharpen artistic skills, build a strong personal portfolio, and gain confidence. Be it for personal growth, high school applications, or future university preparation. Along the way, students will create a vibrant body of work that reflects their unique artistic voice.

PROJECTS:

Week 1

21st September

Project: Tins and Tales

In this playful project, participants will paint sardine tins on a canvas and turn them into tiny interactive artworks, filling them with anything their imagination dreams up, from quirky creatures to surreal scenes. Each tin becomes a miniature stage for their imagination, testing their ability to think outside the box (or, in this case, the can!) and turn a simple object into a delightful, unexpected creation.

Week 2

28th September

Project: Cosmic Dreams

In this project, participants will paint a surreal space scene where the cosmos meets creativity. They’ll blend imaginative, dreamlike galaxies with bold pop art touches, like comic-book planets, quirky starbursts, or astronauts in funky costumes. The goal is to let creativity run wild, blending the mystery of space with the fun, colourful energy of pop art.

Week 3

5th October

Project: Flavor Explosion

In this project, participants will choose any food or drink as the centrepiece of their artwork and let their imagination take over, transforming it into something fantastical. A cupcake might erupt into a cloud of stars, a soda bottle could burst into ocean waves, or a slice of pizza might sprout a jungle of vibrant creatures. The goal is to explore the unexpected, blending the familiar with the surreal in playful and imaginative ways, creating artwork that surprises and delights.

Week 4

12th October

Project: Photo Fusion

In this project, participants will transform their photographs into imaginative mixed-media collages. Using materials like coloured paper, fabric, paints, textures, and found objects, they’ll layer and combine elements to tell a story, evoke emotions, or create abstract compositions.

Week 5

19th October

Project: Musical Metamorphosis

In this project, participants will create music festival–style posters with a surreal twist. Instruments like a heart-shaped gramophone, winged piano, or cloud-drumming kit burst into imaginative forms. They will use bold colours and playful exaggeration to bring rhythm and fantasy together in striking, whimsical artwork.

Week 6

26th October

Project: Wild Vogue

In this project, participants will create a surreal, animal-themed Vogue magazine cover. They will experiment with typography, playful layouts, and inventive captions for magazine articles, blending creativity, humour, and style. The result is a striking, imaginative cover that combines fashion, fantasy, and storytelling in a fun, editorial format.

- Please arrive 15 minutes before the class begins.

- Punctuality is necessary to ensure that the timeline of the workshop is followed and goals are met.

- Once 15 minutes have passed, non-present participants will be marked as "no-show". In such cases, the workshop will be considered "used", with no option for rescheduling it. * No dropout will be refunded or replaced with a different program.
